types of Therapeutic massages Offered at the Spa:

Swedish (relaxation) Massage

The most common type of body massage is Swedish massage therapy. it involves soft, long, gliding and kneading strokes, as well as, light, rhythmic, tapping strokes, on topmost layers of muscles. This is also combind with the movement of the joints. By relieving muscle tension, Swedish therapy can be both relaxing and energizing. And it may even help after an injury.

Aromatherapy Massage

A Swedish massage that uses specially formulated blends of essential and botanical oils to soothe and renew both mind and body.

Massage TherapyDeep Tissue / Sports Massage

Do you play a lot of sports? Experiencing tightness and all tied up in knots? This massage is a more intensive form of Swedish massage that releases chronic patterns of tension in the body through slower strokes and deep finger (or elbow) pressure on contracted areas. This massage modality helps with realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders. Stretching techniques and trigger point release can be incorporated as needed. Due to the release of toxins during this massage, you may feel some discomfort and should drink a lot of fluids.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage for Improved Immune System

Have you been coming down with lots of colds? Is your immune system sluggish? As a vital component of the body's immune function, the lymphatic system is comprised of several organs (thymus, tonsils, spleen, adenoids), hundreds of lymph nodes, and a multitude of vessels that run throughout the body similar to our circulatory system of veins and arteries. These lymphatic vessels carry a clear fluid, known as lymph, that circulates around the body's tissues, absorbing fluid, waste products, dead cells, bacteria, viruses, fats, and proteins from the tissue as it goes, while also giving passage to immune cells as they're needed. This massage stimulates and opens your lymph system so the body can work at maximum effeciency.

Let our expert therapists give your immune system a boost. Only available in 75 or 90 minute sessions.

Hot Stone Therapy Massage

Hot stone massage is a specialty massage where the therapist uses smooth, heated stones, either as an extension of their own hands, or by placing them on the body while they massage other parts of the body. Stones are placed on key energy points on the body, evoking an aura of warmth, while the deep penetrating heat from the stones is used to massage the body, relieving your muscles and allowing you to feel at ease. Please request this massage upon booking your appointment so our therapist can make sure that hot stones are ready for you upon arrival. Only avaialble in 75 or 90 minute sessions.

prenatal Massage (Maternity)

Prenatal massage shares many of the goals of regular massage – to relax tense muscles, ease sore spots, improve circulation and mobility, and just make you feel good. But it's also tailored specifically to the needs of pregnant women and their changing bodies, and therapists who are trained in prenatal massage adjust their techniques accordingly. A trained prenatal massage therapist knows where a pregnant woman's sore spots are likely to be and may be able to provide some relief. (She'll also know which areas and techniques to avoid.) Positioning during a massage is critical to the safety and well-being of both the mother and the baby she is carrying. There are also parts of the body that should not be massaged.
The massage table will be set up so you will lie in a semi-reclining position. This is not only really comfortable, but safe for baby. Also you will turn from side to side to do your back and hips, there are body pillows, wedge pillows and extra padding to make you comfortable, Never use the tables with the whole cut out for your belly, these cause undo stress to your lower back, it may seem like a great idea, but it isn't.
A questions we are often asked about massage is about the level of clothing one will wear. That is really between you and your therapist. Many moms choose to remove all of their clothing, though they are never uncovered, as they are always covered by the sheets. Whatever you choose to wear or remove is completely up to you and your comfort level.
Massage is beneficial for almost everyone. Even women carrying multiples babies can benefit greatly from massage. Massage done during the first trimester is not recommended.
Massage can also be useful for labor.

The Healing Power of a Gentle Touc. Craniosacral technique refers to the body's connection between the cranium or head and sacrum, the bone at the base of your spine. Craniosacral therapy is a hands-on approach that involves “listening with the fingers” to the body’s subtle rhythms and any patterns of inertia and congestion. The emphasis of treatment is to encourage and enhance the body’s own self-healing and self-regulating capabilities, even in the most acute pathologies. Craniosacral Therapy uses very light touch and is suitable for people of all ages, including babies, children and the elderly, and can be effective in acute or chronic cases. You will laying comfortably on a treatment table while only removing shoes and jewelry

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a light-touch approach that can create dramatic improvement in your life. it releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance. Few body structures have more influence over your health and well-being than your central nervous system. And few body systems have more impact on your central nervous system than the cranisoacral system -- the soft tissues and fluid that protect your brain and spinal cord. Every day you endure stresses and strains and your body absorbs them. But your body can only handle so much tension before the tissue begin to tighten and potentially affect the brain and spinal cord. Unfortunately, this can compromise the function of the central nervous system -- and the performance of nearly every other system in your body. CranioSacral Therapy releases those tensions to allow the entire body to relax and self-correct. Using a gentle touch -- starting with about the weight of a nickel --practitioners evaluate your internal environment. Then they use distinctive light-touch techniques to release any restrictions they find. By freeing the central nervous system to perform at its best, CranioSacral Therapy naturally eliminates pain and stress, strengthens your resistance to disease, and enhances your health and well-being. And because it's so gentle, CranioSacral Therapy can be effective for all ages, from newborn to elders.

By carefully listening with the hands to locate areas of weak fluid flow or tissues motion, your practitioner can trace those areas of weakness through the body to the original source of dysfunction. Delicate manual techniques are then used to release those problem areas and improve the form and function of your central nervous system. A CranioSacral Therapy session can last up to an hour or more. It can be used alone or integrated with other therapies to create pwerful effects. What you experience form your own session is highly individual. The sessions are generally deeply relaxing, creating feelings of warmth or gentle pulsing in the areas the therapist is working on.
